Reach Make It also made very good strides in the welding division. What was outstanding from the team was that we relocated from Kuils River to the harbour with not much of a disruption in the training schedule. Teaching went ahead despite the fact that lots had to be done to get the training centre ready. It was a nice sight to see the staff even working on a Saturday.
The only big challenge was the travelling arrangement for the employees. Eventually we also overcame that challenge. Now the program is running in a new setting.
Johan and Humphry also attended a training course to become assessors. We both worked very hard especially on our portfolio of evidence (POE). Our hard work paid off as we both
completed the course successfully. Thoko also finished a First Aid course successfully.
Johan as a subject matter expert was the first to receive his certificate from the merSeta. Humphry had to apply for the theory part of the welding and plumbing courses and is still awaiting his certificate from the merSeta. The merSeta also informed RMI that he will definitely be accepted as a moderator to the welding program as soon as he finished the training successfully.
Reach Make It trained (forty-eight) 48 welding students for 2019. We are of the opinion that the number was impacted because of the relocation. Out of the 48 students,(twenty-five) 25 were able to secure employment in the engineering field.
Our accreditation came to an end on 19 August 2019. Reach Make It immediately applied for the extension of their accreditation. Our application was successful. One of the recommendations of merSeta from this process is that RMI must appoint another qualified welder as a trainer.
